Elevator experience online

BACKGROUND

& APPROACH

KONE was launching a new and improved elevator model to the US market, KONE Monospace 500®, and they needed to get the architects attention and preference to make it to the shortlist when early selection for potential elevator provider is made. KONE's target group is a highly specified one with only a few thousand architects.

The KONE Elevator Toolbox, an online design tool for architects, is one of KONE’s key lead generation tools and important part of the design process. However, it hadn’t been actively developed and optimized in the past few years. An outdated service needed to be renewed to align with KONE’s new visual look & feel and digital approach – and to match the needs of the end-user better.
Together with KONE, we conducted a usability research globally amongst architects. This was done in order to reach better understanding on how users perceive the Toolbox, what’s good about it, and what areas we could improve. The research gave us important insight on the digital nature and today’s requirements of the architect’s work.

SOLUTION

The first renewed part of the Toolbox is MonoSpace elevator configurator. KONE MonoSpace is an iconic elevator solution, which was recently updated as re-launched as well. These two services – the modern elevator and the online configurator – were a perfect match to launch together in the US market.
Toolbox was designed closely with architects, who participated into co-creation sessions from the wireframing stage to testing the tool throughout the design process. The new Toolbox now serves the needs of architects not only clearly better than before, but it also provides additional features that the previous toolbox didn’t. It’s easy to use, responsive for tablet usage (a device, which we found out was quite widely used by the architects), scalable for different needs.

To get architects interested about the all-new Toolbox and new MonoSpace elevator’s features, we created an audio-visual online ride with the elevator, which you can’t experience anywhere else yet in the market.

The campaign including the campaign site has been launched state by state in US since autumn 2016 and it has reached already a few thousand architects and 55% percent of site visitors have used the Toolbox.
